The Story

Developed and validated on the engine dyno, race track, and our exclusive oil pump test bench, the Mountune Ported & High-Pressure Oil Pump has been engineered to increase oil pressure by up to 5%, ensuring improved oil supply to critical engine components.

The Mountune Ported & High-Pressure Oil Pump for the Honda K20C1 engine is designed for high performance and track use. High Performance and Race engines typically require additional oil pressure and flow because of the increased demand placed upon various components within the engine. Additionally, oil pressure can gradually drop off as oil temperatures increase during sustained track and continued high rpm use.

The Mountune Ported & High-Pressure Oil Pump starts life as a genuine Honda oil pump and is upgraded by our technicians in-house for increased efficiency and oil pressure, helping to ensure improved lubrication preventing engine bearing damage and engine failure due to sustained high RPM operation. The pressure increase is factory set by our technicians at a recommended 5% over stock. Suggested applications include drag, track day, and race use or any high-performance engine build.

Starting with a new genuine Honda oil pump, we disassemble and inspect the components to ensure the base parts are within specification. Then each inner and outer pump rotor set receives WPC surface treatment to improve the surface finish allowing the pump to operate more efficiently. Each pump housing is CNC ported on the inlet and discharge passages to ensure smooth and efficient oil flow through the pump. Our technicians then assemble the components and set the PRV adjustment to specification.

This graph shows the stock Honda K20C1 oil pump's pressure versus the Mountune Ported & High-Pressure pump. The pump has been configured for a modest 3% increase in pressure at high RPM but produces approximately 5% more pressure at 3000 RPM. This is right at the engine's peak torque, where bearing loading is the greatest and extra oil pressure is the most critical.

This graph shows the power it takes to spin the oil pump across the RPM range. These power figures are derived from Mountune's proprietary oil pump test bench 10HP electric motor's current consumption. This graph shows that even though the Mountune pump is generating a higher oil pressure, the actual power required to drive the pump is about 2.5% less than stock. This is due to the ported oil flow passageways and WPC-treated pumping internals maximizing the pump's efficiency. Less power to drive the oil pump means more power to the wheels. While the actual horsepower increase may be difficult to notice at the wheels, less horsepower to drive the pump also means less work being put into the fluid (i.e. heat into the oil). The result is lower oil temperature and decreased loading on the vehicle's cooling system, all with an increase in engine durability and performance.
